The available data suggest that Tura-khan's mausoleum is a collective family tomb of a local ruler. In the graves inside the structure, there is no burial equipment, but at the same time the remains of the victim are recorded in the form of parts of the animal carcass. As noted, this is a fairly unified early muslim burial rite typical of our region, but at the same time there are differences from the orthodox muslim funeral ritual (absence of sideburns, presence of taboo coffins, burials in clothes, traces of wounds in the grave, etc.).
Analyzing the architecture of stone mausoleums, some archaeologists associate the stone mausoleums of the Ural-Volga region with the Asian school of architecture, considered by researchers as one of the most significant and striking in muslim architecture. Combining elements of the architecture of the Christian countries of Armenia, Byzantium and Syria, the architecture of Asia Minor (Anatolia) already in the seljuk period became quite distinctive and influenced neighboring regions such as Crimea and the countries of Transcaucasia.
The architecture of the mausoleum
Tura-khan mausoleum is a monument of history, architecture and archeology of the Middle Ages. It is an object of cultural heritage of Russia of federal significance, protected by the state.
Tura-khan's mausoleum is located on the left bank of the Slak river, between the villages of Verkhniye and Nizhniye Thermy in the Chishminsky district of Bashkortostan.
The choice of a place to build a tomb is not accidental. Keshene is visible from afar. In addition to the Tura-khan mausoleum, this complex includes the ruins of the "Maly keshene", as well as an ancient muslim cemetery around them.
